Bifurcation of Syllabus for Unit Tests

Bifurcation of Syllabus for Unit Tests for Semester III of Scheme C 09
Unit Test I : Lessons 1 – 17
Unit Test II : Lessons 18 - 37 (Oral Examination )
Rationale for Oral Examination:
The thrust of the book is on imparting spoken skills.
Evaluation has to be geared towards spoken skills
Since evaluation by and large determines the classroom procedure, testing spoken skills will ensure the teaching /learning process in the classroom, thus fulfilling the objective of the Course.
Procedure to examine the spoken skills of the students
Unit test II may be made into an oral examination conducted by the concerned teacher for 20 marks.
As the test cannot be conducted for all the students of different branches on a single day, flexi-time may be allowed.
The marks scored by a student in the internals would be an average of Unit Test 1 and Unit Test 2
Guidelines for conducting Oral examination for Unit Test 2
It should be conducted in the last month of the Semester
It should be as transparent as possible
Pair ( role play); group (discussion, debate etc.)activities may be given for evaluation
Alternatively questions based on activities in the textbook may also be prepared and asked for evaluation
The following aspects may be considered while awarding marks
- Intelligibility
- Fluency
- Structural Accuracy
- Appropriate Vocabulary
